Why March 2025 is so significant
Some philosophical and practical thoughts on what to expect next month
March is a major month.
Along with April, it might be the most significant astrology of 2025. As a result, March may feel like a series of big changes in quick succession. At the very least, we’ll look back at March as a starting point for events that unfold throughout the year.
The key to March is to expect a back-and-forth energy between the foggy, illusory dreamworld we’re currently in (Pisces) and an inspired, independent, fiery reality (Aries). By expecting this ping-pong energy for a few weeks, we can remember to ground ourselves and prepare for a full-time transition to Aries.
If March 2020 was about lockdown, March 2025 is about breaking free. That’s because of the Aries theme of independence. It may not always be easy, so it’s essential we focus on the positive, empowering energy of the new era.
In this piece, I want to practically explain why March could be so eventful. I know astrology can feel cryptic (amplified by the Pisces energy right now). So I welcome comments below for anything that needs clarifying.

March has multiple cycles that overlap, which will correlate with intense world events and/or a feeling of overwhelm.
An example of “overlapping cycles” in daily life: Your co-worker is sick and you have to pick up another shift. And your newborn requires more attention than usual. And your relationship is on thin ice. And you’re selling your home but the escrow period extended because of termites. And you promised a friend you’d help out on her community service project. All in one month.
That’s a random list of events and perhaps overly negative. How about this: You got a promotion! And learned your best friend is moving back home! And you have an exciting international vacation but it will take you offline. And your investments went well, so you’re busy finding something to buy. And you closed escrow on a new home but need to move sooner than expected.
The point is that overlapping cycles are busy — not necessarily “good or bad”. But when a lot of life happens at once, it can feel intense or overwhelming.
Astrologically, we have a number of cycles occurring all at once in March. (Usually they’re spread out.) In summary: The two closest planets to us are retrograding at once. We have two eclipses. The spring equinox. And Neptune moving signs for the first time in 14 years.
March could lead to a cornucopia of great events coming into your personal life — but because everything everywhere is happening all at once, it may leave you without time to process.
OK, so we’re going to be busy. But what type of busy? Well, that’s where understanding the astrology seasons helps us.
Astrology is about three main things: characters (the planets), seasons where action takes place (the signs), and patterns (the planetary cycles and aspects).
Not only do we have overlapping cycles in March, they’re almost all happening in two seasons: Pisces and Aries. That means we’re moving back-and-forth between a foggier, dreamier, blissful or dissociative energy (Pisces) and a clearer, fiery, independent, in-your-face reality check (Aries). It’s not just a transition from one season to another, but a back-and-forth several times. That could be the challenge.
March might feel like being in a deep dream, and then being awakened, and then going back to sleep temporarily, and then the alarm goes off. Some days will feel like you’ve lost the plot only to have a stark reality or awakening the next day. Because of the Venus and Mercury retrogrades, it may feel like back-and-forth energy until mid April or May.
All of this can be grounded in detail if you study the part of your chart where Pisces and Aries occur. Is it your finances? Relationships? Creative projects? Astrology can illuminate if you know your rising sign. Patreon Deep Divers get regular rising sign horoscopes.
What can we practically do? Astrology is helpful by providing us expectations so we witness change rather than being overly reactive.
First, let’s be aware we’re in the final weeks of a foggy dream. If we know we’re about to wake up, it might make the transition easier. We can also ground our energy and not get “lost in the sauce” for these final weeks of foggy, dreamlike energy.
Second, let’s seize the independent and inspired energy of Aries — even if it’s a reality check. Let’s focus on self-agency over codependency. Let’s become leaders (Aries) by taking charge of our personal lives.
Third, let’s foster local community. All this Aries energy is making a harmonious connection to Pluto in Aquarius, which represents humanitarianism and community-based change. The world is about to change radically in the coming 8 years — and beyond. The institutions that we take for granted may suddenly dissolve. I’m not sharing this to create fear but to provide expectations that you can use and focus on creating community now.
Fourth, keep the unhelpful, disempowering news or energy at bay. I’m guilty of violating this one. But the reality is we’re starting a period of immense change and we need to lean into the empowering themes of Aries: independence, self-leadership, and inspired creativity. Avoid the chaotic, conflict-oriented side of Aries.
With that philosophy in mind, here’s an overview of what’s happening astrologically.
Paid subscribers will receive a more in-depth March Astro Planner in a separate posting.

March 1-April 14: Venus retrograde. Use this time to get very clear on what you want. What assumptions are changing or dissolving that allow you to narrow in on your true values and aligned relationships? On the world stage, Venus retrograde in Aries will correlate to protests and perhaps conflict. How can you navigate these themes and be a leader in your own life?
March 11: Moon in Leo. When the Moon is in Leo for a few days, it might bring up themes from the middle of February or the start of December (remember Luigi Mangioni?). That’s because it will connect with the planet of change and disruption (Uranus). While it does this monthly, because an eclipse happens a few days later, the Moon’s connection to Uranus may start an eventful few weeks.
March 14: Full Moon eclipse in Virgo. Where can you let go of the impractical demands of perfection in your life? As the world releases old processes and leans into fake news, how can you create supportive routines in your life without demanding perfection? Perfection does not exist in nature. This Virgo eclipse will begin a 2-year cycle to show us how to let go of this human construct.
March 15-April 7: Mercury retrogrades. How are we revising our communication and how does that impact the ongoing review of our values and relationships (Venus)? This Mercury retrograde may also connect to the themes of perfectionism or fake news that correlated to the March 14 eclipse in Virgo.
March 19/20: Aries season begins. March 19/20 (time zone dependent) is the start of spring and the astrological calendar. This year, the spring equinox is happening between two eclipses. Eclipses extinguish the lights in our sky and serve as a potent metaphor of temporarily losing vision. While we may begin this year in relative darkness, how can we use our other senses to start a new year?
March 22 and 24: Turning points. On these two dates, we’ll reach the middle of both Venus and Mercury’s retrograde cycles. What pivots are you making around these days? Again, we’re between two eclipses, so if clarity about what you’re reviewing is not immediately available, it will crystallize in the coming weeks.
March 29: New Moon (solar) eclipse in Aries. Since this eclipse ends a chapter that began in April 2023, it could be the “season finale” of that story. It’s the last Aries eclipse near the North Node in ~18 years. Eclipses are powerful astrology symbols of change, but they involve the Moon. The Moon tends to act quietly, or subconsciously. Like the tide slowly being pulled out, you only realize the water has moved hours later. Since this eclipse is the end of a chapter, take time to review how much your life has changed since April 2023.
March 30: Neptune enters Aries. Right after the Aries eclipse, Neptune enters Aries for the first time since 1861. Neptune represents the collective’s current dream. We are moving from a foggy, illusory dream of social media, fake news, saintly behavior (in excess), and dissociation. The world has felt like it’s in a simulation. On March 30, we begin a 14-year collective dream centered on inspired leadership, individual creativity, heroic warriors, and what might initially feel like a big reality check. (This day is such a major part of 2025, I have an in-depth piece coming soon.)
Concluding thoughts
By the end of March, we’ll have felt a few earthquake-like events or major pivots that will have aftershocks throughout the rest of the year. Despite these changes, we’re ending the month with Venus and Mercury back in the foggy, dreamy sign of Pisces.
How can we engage with this new, fiery reality while being aware we’re still dreaming for a few more weeks? That, to me, is the most complex and challenging part of March. But it's also an opportunity. By May, it’s all about the fiery Aries change until August.
Like Venus and Mercury, which will end the month rising before the Sun instead of being visible after sunset (as they’ve been the past few months), we’ll begin April in a new position. Perhaps a new reality.
When these two planets move forward again, we too can step boldly into the future.

As always, until next time, I’ll catch you in the stars.
This is the clearest explanation I have found for the astrology of March.
There is so much going on at once that it’s nice to see it in a timeline and the context of each event.
